And local residents who want to transition into an assisted-living facility have to look elsewhere because there simply isn't one in Charlestown. But the partners in development firm Charlestown Landing LLC plan to change that scenario with a mixed-use community that also bears the Charlestown Landing name. .
Emma Tillman Dies After Holding Title as Oldest Living Person for Four Days
January 30, 2007 - Emma Faust Tillman, an 114-year-old American, who was once a servant for actress Katharine Hepburn, died on Sunday, January 28, just four days after gaining the title as the world's oldest living person. Her reign was the shortest on record, says Robert Young, senior consultant for gerontology for Guinness World Records. She became the oldest living woman on January 18 and then the oldest living person on January 24, when Emiliano Mercado del Torro of Puerto Rico, died at 115 years of age. The oldest living person is now believed to be Yone Minagawa of Fukuoka, Japan, who is 114, born Jan. 4, 1893. .
Apartments ablaze
AUBURN HILLS - Dozens of firefighters battled for hours Friday against an early morning fire that ravaged a 16-unit condo and apartment building. Residents living in The Boulevard, a complex on the north side of Walton Boulevard across from Oakland University, made it out safely. But their dwellings were destroyed. Firefighters were called shortly after 3 a.m. "The first guy on scene said there was so much smoke in the parking lot that they would barely even see the building," said Auburn Hills Fire Inspector Fred Solomon. Solomon said the fire was initially in the attic area over a unit in the south end of the building, which had two stories on either end and three stories in the middle. The flames spread through the attic and in open spaces between floors, even eating through fire stops.
